Another silver coin from the Straits Settlement era that was brought into my personal collection. Though I already have a MS67 piece, but this MS66 is a complementary copy so I can try to complete a set from MS63-MS67...

1985 Malaysia 50 sen Mutli Die Crack
This 1985 50 sen is a good example of a multi die crack. See if you can find the second, third and fourth die crack hairlines other than the 1985 die crack line.

1969 50 sen SE MS62
Yesterday Mavin auction 35 saw this coin hammered at SGD380, approximately RM1150 including buyer's premium. This transacted results is more reasonable compared to the past 2 transactions that were merely unrealistic transactions as the realised prices were far too different apart.
Probably only speculators who wish to increase their sales will resort to such idiotic measures. Are you one of them?

Malaysia 1971 10cents V2 MS65
Recent auction in Singapore saw this 1971 Malaysia 10 cents V2 auction of at about RM1000(Premium+GST included)
So, what do you think? Does the winner/buyer had gone berserk with this price?
Many claim that this coin is not worth the price...then my question to you all out there "Tell me which one is more deserving? Is it the 50 sen Milled Edge that created so many hoo-hah and returned to Malaysia with extra value???"

Malaysia 1971 10cents V2 MS64
Recent price hike in this 1971 10 cents V2 in auctions both locally and overseas has somehow caused numis fans around the country searching high and low for this piece.
I consider myself very fortunate to be able to capture few pieces in my collection of Malaysia Rare/Scarce Coins series. More to come in short time.
Just hold onto your seats....

Is this for real?
Last weekend Sunday 29/09/2013 may be another historic day for the MNS. Two coins that were on auction were realised at an unprecedented price.
Before I jump into any conclusion, probably it is better I pose few questions for the coin collectors out there.
Q1. In your opinion, are these two coins really that scarce and rare?
Q2. In the last Mavin auction held 13th July 2013, a 1969 50 sen security edge, NGC MS62, was hammered together with another Japan coin at SGD340 (not inclusive of 18% premium). Is this the justification for the sudden increase for the market value of such coin? Or can there be any other reasons?
Q3. Do you think (in your right mind of course) that these 2 coins are worth the transacted price?
So, is this for real? Or is this just another speculations? Will there be any innocent victims falling prey if it is just a speculation?

Buying with the Right Mindset...Then You Wont Get Burnt!
Recently I came across few newbies in Numis family. Apparently they have been into this hobby just for a short while, say about 1 year ++.
However, most of these newbies, in my 2 cents worth opinion, were not really genuine collectors. In fact most of them were purely seasonal collectors, some were purely opportunists hoping to make fast cash.
Myself being a collector 1st, investor last, wish to pose these questions to those newbies.
Question 1:
What is the real intention of buying a particular numist item- For personal collection? For investment? For business purposes?
Question 2:
If you are buying for personal collection, how long are you willing to keep it in your collection? 20 years? 30 years?
Question 3:
If you are buying for investment purpose, have you considered the time frame required as well as the factors that will determine the rate of appreciation of the item?
Question 3
If you are buying for business purposes, are you able to resell easily or will it get your cash flow stuck?
One should be well aware that the route one has chosen will determine the strategies needed to acquire the item. It will also affect one's ability to collect in terms of knowledge and technique required prior to purchasing.
